Join us November 15th, 2008 for our first Robotics Expo. ROBOMO members and the general public alike are invited to come and explore the world of amateur robotics. Come and see some of the variety of projects our members are involved in, including mini-sumo, line following, mini-magellan, humaniod soccer playing, and more. Click here for the forum topic for this event.

Location:
Indian Trails Public Library
8400 Delport Drive
Overland, MO 63114
Time: Saturday, November 15th, from 10:00am to 1:00pm.

Informal competitions will be held to demonstrate mini-sumo and line following, which are two of the more common amateur robotics activities.

Presentations planned for the Robotics Expo are:
-Getting started in robotics
-Programming environments…LEGO, C (Arduino), and Flowcode

Following the robotics activities we will be heading to a local Chinese restaurant buffet and then visiting local surplus electronic stores.

Attendance prizes will be drawn throughout the day.

Note to vendors: If you would like to donate a robotics/electronics related item to be used as an attendance prize, or would like to provide flyers, catalogs, etc., please send an email to the webmaster by clicking here.

Prize: To be announced!

Goal: The robot begins at one end of the line with the front of the robot one foot from the edge of the board. After a three second delay the robot line follows to the other end of the line. The robot may only leave the line during the long straight-away that the soda can is on. At the end of the challenge some part of the soda can must remain in the circle in the center of the board. The soda can may be turned or flipped. The robot that completes the challenge in the shortest time wins.

Robot:
• Autonomous
• 3-second delay
• 1-foot cube max starting size
• 15lb weight limit
• Build with any safe materials

Playing field: 4-foot by 8-foot white board. The line is marked with ¾ inch electrical tape. There is no break in the line. A circle drawn in pencil marks the placement of the can.

Playing pieces: one empty soda can

Name: 4 Elements
Prize: Robotics related item worth at least $50

Description: 4 Elements is a race against the clock through which one will have to build an autonomous robot to self navigate through the maze traversing the 4 elements found here on earth.

The maze walls will be painted white with the floor some other dark color.

The maze outside size is 4′ X 4′ with a 11.5″ X 11.5″ path width.

Random theme related objects should be expected, and will be smaller than 2″ tall, which each bot will be expected to traverse.

The race official will count down 3, 2, 1, go!!!

Your bot will then be switched on, and it will begin to progress through the maze.

The race official will start the stopwatch when he says “go”.

Your lap time will stop, when your bot reaches the finish line which will be painted on the maze walls and floor.

The max bot size will be our clubs “Maze” standard 11″ X 11″ with an unlimited height. Any robot weight is allowed.

Each bot will be allowed 3 runs through the maze.

The running order will be determined randomly.

All entries will run 1 lap through the maze before ANY entry will be allowed to run its second lap.

All entries will get a maximum of 2 minutes if they are not ready when called. If they are not ready after 2 minutes of time. They will receive a DNF for that run.

The event winner (fastest lap time) will win a robotics related prize donated by http://www.winfieldrobotics.com which will have a value of $50.00 or more.

The maze shown is just for visual reference, and is only showing the path which your bot will have to take.
