Game: Gap

Due to some technical difficulties, we are repeating the Gap Mini competition during the February 2008 meeting.

Goal: The robot starts on one table. After a three second delay the robot moves from one table to the next over a one-foot gap. Robots must not fall off the table. The shortest time wins.

Robot:

  • Autonomous
  • 3-second delay
  • 1-foot cube max starting size
  • 15lb weight limit
  • Build with any safe materials

ROBOMO members have been invited to stop by and check out the St. Louis FIRST Lego Robotics Competition which is being held Saturday, December 1st, from 7:30am to 4:00pm. Several of us build LEGO robots, so bring them along for some impromptu show and tell.

The Hazelwood Linux Users group has special meetings for those new to Linux and would like to learn more. Meetings are usually on the 4th Tuesday of the month unless otherwise noted. Meeting times are 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

For the newcomer, anyone new to Linux.

MISSION: To provide a group dedicated to helping the new Linux user (the “newcomer”) in the City of Hazelwood and general St. Louis metropolitan area.

GOALS: To provide a technically non-threating environment for new comers to Linux for asking questions, demonstrating applications and teaching Linux related topics. To promote use of free open source GNU/Linux computer network operating systems for PC desktops, workstations and servers. To help computer users evaluate, use and enjoy free non-commercial Internet capable Unix-like computer operating systems and applications.

PURPOSE:
This group will be a not for profit, vendor-independent organization dedicated to promoting the Linux operating system. It will be oriented toward and geared to the needs of the new Linux user (the newcomer) by providing introductory level information and one on one assistance. It will provide a forum for exchanging information about systems, products, services and architectures related to Linux.

MEMBERSHIP: Show up, look, listen, learn, participate and you will be a member. All meetings are free and open to the public. A one dollar donation may be made toward the cost of the room; otherwise, we have no membership dues.

Join us January 19th, 2008 for our monthly meeting. Our meetings start at 10:00am and last until 1:00pm, although we usually adjourn a bit early to have a Chinese buffet. Everyone is welcome to attend…if you are curious about robotics please stop by. Bring your current project, in any state of completion, for show and tell or to ask for help. Our members come from a wide range of professions and are more than willing to lend a hand.

Game: Segregate

Goal: The robot begins in the starting box. After a three second delay the robot places the Pepsi cans on one side of the line and the Coke cans on the other. The robot then returns to the starting box. The robot must not protrude over the edge of the playing field at any time. The robot that separates all of the cans and returns to the starting box in the shortest time wins.

Robot:
• Autonomous
• 3-second delay
• 1-foot cube max starting size
• 15lb weight limit
• Build with any safe materials

Playing field: 4-foot by 8-foot white board. A 4-foot by 16-inch starting box is marked with ¾ inch electrical tape on one end of the board. The other end of the board has two marks 16-inches apart 16-inches from the far end and 16-inches from each side of the playing field. The cans are centered on the marks.
