Hey guys,

Tonight I got asked about "Being in control of the domain". As the time to move the hosting has apparently come.

My response is:

I don't control the domain. Everyone in this group does. That's why I gave several of you guys the login info for the Godaddy account I created for the group months ago. So that no 1 person controls the group.
I'll help in anyway the group wants to go. Just let me know what you need me to do. But I'm making every aspect of this decision public, in case any of you want to share any opinions/comments/etc.

You ALL have a fair say so in this.

This IS a big decision for the group to make.
Also I wanna remind everyone that it was previously voted on that winfieldmike would make this call when the time comes:
Date:9/19/09
Business:Mike was given the job of taking care of most of the website issues.

I finally go through to someone at Arvixe today and they are fixing the issue I am having with the server. I'm paying $20 a month and getting 1.5G of space, 40G bandwidth for all my web pages including ROBOMO. That meant that currently Robomo had 600M storage and 30G bandwidth leaving 10G bandwidth for all the other 9 sites combined.

I pointed out to them that the plan they show now is 50G space and 500G bandwidth... M-U-C-H more than I'm getting. The person on chat yesterday was like, "Sorry, pay us $240 today and we can fix that." I was so pissed that I opened a hosting account on GoDaddy for $15 a month with unlimited space. The problem was that it was one domain, and everything else was allocated internally. I didn't like the idea of all the web pages being in one directory.

I called Arvixe and for an additional $5 per month they are going to upgrade me to a different server if they can't get the current one to recognize the space change. If that happens... we will get a different nameserver. If we do... there will be a 24 or 48 hour period where the domain will point to the old site, then the new. So some posts during that time may get lost. If we don't have to move... than this is not an issue. Anyway... if we do relocate since I no longer own the domain, whoever does will need to change the nameserver or the site will go off-the-air. I'll keep you posted so that you know what is going on and if any action needs to be taken.

FYI - I'm paying $300.00 per year for the account out of my pocket for the hosting plan. If the group were to go to their own plan, it would be about $12 to $15 per month or $144.00 to $180.00 per year.

If you are wondering about the way it is currently specified: http://askjerry.info/SERVER.xls
