Let's ROLL!

Postby LeenSTL on Sun Nov 05, 2006 9:33 am

Who's up for forming teams to work on RoboMagellan bots? We've got all winter to figure out how to use sensors & GPS on a mobile offroad capable bot, is anyone else interested?

Mike, Winston & I have started working on an e-maxx based prototype, with some help from Jerry who figured out how to use the new multi-beam IR unit. With all of those silver bomber motors around there should be plenty of horsepower out there!

I'm hoping to have ours rolling by Spring but that is a bit tight for anyone who is just starting to accumulate the parts. Can we aim for a date in late Spring or early summer?

Someone would have to choose which set of rules to use, ie, Seattle vs Penn State, or else make our own. Ideally that would be Penn State minus the gallon of water requirement.

Let's roll ...

Whilst looking for the rules I found this...

http://robots.net/rcfaq.html

Looks like a whole bunch of competitions.

Actually... the main page http://robots.net/ looks pretty interesting as well.

I then went looking around and found this... http://www.botmag.com/index.shtml more interesting reading.

Very cool, some of the major clubs have RoboMagellan competitons scheduled in 2007 as does Penn State.

Someone mentioned that we set our mini terrain bot restrictions, to those of some other robot group, so that our bots can compete in their events.

Just because they thought of it first does not mean a thing!

Why can't we make up our own rules, and make them modify their designs to fit our restrictions?

I still think a kick ball game is possible.

The defensive bots in the field are just sumo bots or socker bots that locate a ball and push it towards a goal (home plate)

The offensive bot (batter or kicker) just has slam into a ball placed on home plate, and then navigate from home base, arround the bases, and back to home.

Many county parks have nice level baseball diamonds already in place, with seating.

Who is still serious about making a bot big enuf to slam a socker ball?

Jerry and Winston have wheel chair bases, Ken and Phil are working on deer chasers. I still plan on building the aluminum monster...

This sounds interesting, I've already been planning on doing a RoboMagellan bot first but I would be interested in doing either this or a bb gun / paintball bot ...

Anyone decided what rules you are playing by?

How about these:

Those are the SRS RoboMagellan rules, I am OK with them or with the Penn State rules. However, the best of both worlds would be the Penn State rules minus the gallon of water payload requirement. That way the bot would not have to actually touch (but not knock over) the cone at the final waypoint (Penn State) and would not have a payload requirement (SRS).

I guess these are them.

I actually prefer the SRS rules IMHO.

Each has cons: SRS requires the bot to touch but not knock over the target cone, Penn State requires a minimum of one gallon of water to be carried as a payload.

All in favor of using the St. Louis / Robomo rules, say AYE!

One six-pack!

Postby tmaiden on Mon Nov 20, 2006 12:13 pm

I agree,

One six pack!

And now that David has some power wheel chair parts, he can be included in this class of robot contest.

and Mike L's "Barbie car bot" should work as well.

OK here is the line up...

Winston - Wheel chair bot
Jerry - Wheel chair bot
Phil - Golf Bag cady Deer Chaser
Ken - Deer Chaser
Tom - Aluminum Monster
Mike - Barbie Car Bot
David - Wheel Chair bot

Am I missing any body?
